Description
The eventual successor of Emhyr van Emreis as Emperor of Nilfgaard. He's said to be related to the emperor in both the maternal and paternal lines. How I interpreted that: Morvran's dynasty is an offshoot, a branch of van Emreis, while his mother was related to the emperor's mother. We know Maria Henrietta, duchess of Touissant, is also related to Emhyr, thus, in my headcanon both Emhyr's and Morvran's mothers belonged to the Toussaint royal family and were closely related. So, when Emhyr dies at some point, without male offspring, the head of the cadet branch inherits through agnatic inheritance, while he also has proximity of blood to boost his claim (maternal links, that must be pretty close). Also, in my headcannon and to avoid trouble with Cintra he marries the (Fake) Cirilla, suposed grandaughter of Calanthe. Thus, Morvran's coat of arms as emperor is Emhyr's, with a label for difference (upper left), while his personal heraldic device impales Cintra (three lions, right) for the Fake Ciri and his own arms (Toussaint and Voorhis).
I know, quite convoluted, but works in my head. Morvran's portrait was done after a portrait of Charles the Bold, done by an anonymous painter follower of Roger van der Weyden. While Morvran is a character in Witcher 3, I prefered to follow my own take and style while portraying him.
