Aenys Targaryen

The weak son of Aegon the Conqueror, under whom the Faith Uprising started, as they considered the new King a spawn of incest and an unworthy ruler. He was a patron of the arts, who preferred the courtly life while his half-brother, Maegor, led his armies and ruled with an iron fist as Hand of the King. Ultimately, after five years of reign he died in suspicious circumstances, and instead of one of his sons, still minors, Maegor rose to the throne as King.

I inspired myself in the royal portraits of the XIV century, specially the remaining depictions of Richard II Plantagenet, like his magnificent portrait in Westminster. Also I included nods to the Targaryen heraldry, like including the three-headed dragon on the orb and the scepter. The crown was made using as reference few remaining crowns from that era, but specially the one kept in the Munich Residenz, because even if it is thought to be a Queen's one it is magnificent and suited well the concept of an ornate, lavish crown for Aenys I. I used as reference as well images from 'the Hollow Crown' the fantastic mini-series about the Henriad, Shakespeare's plays about Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V.
